Khanewal: Police arrested two suspects on Tuesday after a video showing a young man being beaten with sticks went viral on social media, officials said.
The incident occurred in the Kot Islam area under Haveli Kalanwala police station, where three men allegedly assaulted Muhammad Ali Sher with clubs and sticks. A case was registered against the accused under Sections 324, 506, 292, 148 and 149 on the complainant’s request.
District Police Officer (DPO) Khanewal Muhammad Abid took immediate notice of the viral video and ordered the arrest of those involved. Police said prompt action led to the arrest of two suspects, while efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
The accused have been identified as Ghazanfar Abbas, Qasim, Sona and others named in the First Information Report (FIR).
The DPO said no leniency would be shown to those who take the law into their own hands, adding that protection of citizens’ life and property would be ensured at all costs. He vowed strict legal action against the accused in accordance with the law.
