Universities recommended to focus on other fields along with AI and computer science

Lahore: The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has recommended that universities in the province start balanced degree programs in other important fields instead of focusing only on computer science and artificial intelligence (AI).

According to PHEC, students in universities should be prepared keeping in mind the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while along with computer science and AI, attention should also be paid to degree programs related to energy, environment and human development.

Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr. Iqrar said that currently most of the universities are focusing on computer-based degree programs. Punjab universities are being recommended to start balanced degree programs in different fields so that higher education can be aligned with social and national needs.

He said that currently about 600 degree programs are being run under higher education, but many of them are unnecessary. Such programs need to be closed so that quality and need-oriented programs can be promoted in universities.

The board of the Punjab Higher Education Commission has approved the recommendations related to universities.
