Bahawalpur: The Zoo Lovers Society has demanded the authorities concerned conduct an inquiry into death of a lioness at Bahawalpur Zoo.
The lioness, named Morni, recently died at Sher Bagh Zoo in Bahawalpur. Zoo Lovers Society alleged that lioness died after failing to receive timely medical treatment due to the absence of a veterinary doctor.
According to a press release issued by the society, Zoo Lovers Society Chairman Murtaza Rasool Khan said that the lioness had been in need of urgent veterinary care for several days. ‘However, the unavailability of the veterinary doctor and non-provision of timely treatment, resulted in her death,’ he alleged.
However, the management of the zoo contended that all available resources were utilised for medical treatment of the lioness. It rejected the allegations that negligence was committed in the treatment of the lioness.
