Multan: Local police arrested two wanted criminals, including one allegedly involved in more than 13 criminal cases, an official spokesperson said.

The alleged ringleader of the Rehmani gang, Rehman, was arrested by Chehlyak Police Station. Stolen goods, including five motorcycles and Rs 800,000, were recovered from his possession.

In another operation carried out at Beat Mughal, within the jurisdiction of Jalalpur Police Station, the accused, Khursheed Ahmed, was arrested for possessing an illegal weapon. A 30-bore pistol along with ammunition was recovered from him.

Police concerned launched investigations.

Chiniot: Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan on Saturday inspected Sargodha Road and directed the relevant departments to implement a permanent rainwater drainage system, emphasizing coordinated efforts to improve urban infrastructure and prevent water-logging during the monsoon season.

Accompanied by Highway Division officer Muhammad Ahmed, WASA Managing Director Muhammad Rafi, Municipal Committee Chief Officer Muhammad Arif, Deputy Director Development Dr. Naveed and other officials, the deputy commissioner reviewed the condition of the road, drainage arrangements and civic facilities. She inspected several locations and instructed departments to resolve infrastructure issues through close coordination.

Ayesha Rizwan stressed the need for a durable and efficient drainage network on Sargodha Road and ordered regular cleaning of drains and sewer lines to eliminate recurring complaints of rainwater accumulation. She also directed all concerned agencies to remain on high alert during and after rainfall, ensuring prompt water clearance and advance preparedness for any emergency situation.

The deputy commissioner instructed departments to complete all road improvement, drainage and sanitation works within the stipulated timeframe and according to prescribed standards to provide better transport and civic services to residents. She warned that negligence in addressing public issues would not be tolerated and called for efficient performance from all departments.

Sialkot: University of Sialkot (USKT) Department of Aviation Management, under the visionary guidance of Faisal Manzoor, Chairman Board of Governors (BoGs), and the dynamic leadership of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, Vice Chancellor, University of Sialkot (USKT), organized a community service visit to SOS Children’s Village, Sialkot with its 6th Semester students.

According to USKT, the students actively raised funds to provide educational supplies, sports items, and refreshments for the children. They also spent quality time engaging in games, learning activities, and meaningful interactions, making the day joyful, memorable, and inspiring for everyone involved.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police arrested 6 suspects including 5 with gunshot injuries in overnight encounters occurring in the limits of Tandojam, Phuleli and Pabban police stations.The police spokesman informed here on Saturday that a team of PS Tandojam was engaged in an exchange of fire by 3 suspects riding on a motorbike.He added that the encounter ended with gunshot wounds sustained by all the 3 suspects in their legs.He identified the apprehended suspects as Junaid Noohani, Sujawal Gurgazai and Ayaz Noohani who were later shifted to Liaquat University Hospital (LUH).

Although the spokesman claimed that the 3 were booked in 2 FIRs at Chalgari police station and Naseem Nagar check post, he did not clarify which of the 3 suspects were nominated in those cases.The police recovered 2 pistols and a motorbike from possession of the suspects.Meanwhile, the spokesman told that the cops of Phuleli police station carried out an encounter near Kumbhar Mohalla with suspected drug peddlers.One suspect, later identified as Yaqoob Makrani Baloch, was injured during the two-way firing but his associate escaped.The police impounded a motorbike besides recovering narcotic substances and a pistol.

Baloch, who was also shifted to the LUH, was reportedly booked in 6 FIRs in Phuleli and 3 in Hali Road police stations.He apprised that a police team of PS Pabban during patrolling on Bakshu Laghari link road spotted some suspects but as they came closer the suspects allegedly fired gunshots on the cops in an attempt to escape.The police later apprehended 2 suspects after the exchange of fire including one, Zahid Abro, in injured condition with a bullet wound on his leg.According to the spokesman, Abro was booked in 3 FIRs at Naseem Nagar, Phuleli and SITE police stations and his associate Waheed Chandio in one at Phuleli PS.

Sialkot: A seven-member delegation of the Restaurant Association of Sialkot, led by Chairman of the association Nawaz Ansari from Allah Malik Restaurant, met Chairman Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL) Abdul Ghafoor Malik, Vice Chairman SIAL Syed Shahid Raza, and CEO SIAL AVM Tanweer Ashraf Bhatti (R).

The delegation included the President of the association Jahengir, leading restaurant owners of Sialkot, namely Nadeem Ahmad of Frangos Restaurant, Kashif of Second Cup coffee shop, Faisal Cheema of Heritage Club, Saleh of Kaori Restaurant, along with other members of the association.

Esteemed member of the board of directors and former vice chairman of SIAL, Sarfraz Bhatti, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, matters pertaining to the expansion of food and hospitality services at SIAL and potential avenues for future business collaboration came under discussion.

Chairman SIAL appreciated the interest shown by the restaurant community and reaffirmed the airport’s commitment to facilitating quality services and strengthening partnerships with the local business sector.

Mansehra: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Saturday called for expediting work on the Siran Right Bank Canal project in Mansehra, directing the authorities to ensure its timely completion without compromising construction quality and transparency.

The minister received a comprehensive briefing on the progress of the Siran Right Bank Canal during his visit to Mansehra. Member of the National Assembly Shehzada Gustasb, Members of the Provincial Assembly Zahid Chanzeb and Ikram Ghazi, along with senior officials of the Irrigation Department, attended the briefing.

Officials informed the minister that the Siran Right Bank Canal is one of the province’s major irrigation schemes and a longstanding demand of the farming community in Mansehra. They said the project would provide a permanent supply of canal water to thousands of acres of barren and cultivated land, leading to a substantial increase in agricultural production, improved water distribution, promotion of modern farming practices and enhanced income opportunities for farmers. The project is also expected to contribute significantly to the area’s overall economic development.

During the briefing, officials presented details of the project’s technical progress, financial position, construction activities, challenges and future implementation strategy. They informed the minister that 80 percent of the off-take structure and head regulator had been completed, while work on the irrigation canal had reached 10 percent completion. Construction of the affiliated canal structures had achieved 40 percent progress. Officials said all available resources were being utilized to accelerate the remaining work and keep the project on track.

Speaking on the occasion, Riaz Khan said the provincial government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, had made the development of the irrigation and agriculture sectors a top priority. He said the timely completion of the Siran Right Bank Canal would help transform agriculture in Mansehra by ensuring a reliable supply of irrigation water and directly benefiting thousands of farmers.

The minister instructed the Irrigation Department to remove all technical and administrative hurdles without delay and further accelerate construction activities to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. He emphasized that construction quality, transparency and effective monitoring must be maintained throughout the execution of the project, adding that no compromise would be accepted on standards.

Riaz Khan said the provincial government was committed to completing irrigation projects across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on time to strengthen the agriculture sector, improve water management and support the socio-economic development of farming communities. He expressed confidence that the Siran Right Bank Canal would emerge as a landmark project for Mansehra and play a vital role in increasing agricultural productivity and farmers’ prosperity.
