Nathiagali: A monitoring team from the Chief Secretary’s Office, Peshawar, visited the high-impact tourist zones of Galiyat to inspect tourism facilities, sanitation arrangements, and the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at improving environmental sustainability and visitor services.

The team inspected tourist amenities, the existing sewerage system, the solid waste management system, and the proposed sites for new sewerage lines. Assistant Director (Technical) Asad Shah accompanied the delegation and briefed its members on the progress of development schemes, sewerage infrastructure, and sanitation measures.

The monitoring team expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness, environmentally friendly initiatives, and the arrangements made for sewerage and solid waste management in the tourist areas. It termed the proposed sewerage projects a major step toward environmental protection, improved tourist facilities, and sustainable development in Galiyat.

Peshawar: In an encouraging development, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has appointed the first-ever female District Police Officer (DPO) for Nowshera district.

According to CCPO office on Sunday, Ms. Sonia Shamroz has officially assumed charge as DPO Nowshera after being transferred from her previous position as AIG Establishment.

Sonia Shamroz has earned international recognition for her professional achievements. She received an international fellowship in Criminology from the United Kingdom and has also been honored with the Asia’s Outstanding Female Officer Award.

Her appointment marks a significant milestone for the police force in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, making her the first woman to lead policing in Nowshera district.

Multan: The body of an elderly man was recovered from his house in Ward No.6 of Chowk Azam after neighbors alerted Rescue 1122 about a foul smell emanating from the premises,officials said on Sunday.

According to Rescue 1122,an ambulance and a motorbike ambulance service were dispatched to the house after receiving the call.

The deceased was identified as Muhammad Siddique.

Rescue officials said the body appeared to have been lying inside the house for nearly five days.

Family members told rescuers that Siddique had been living separately from his relatives for more than 10 years and had been battling cancer.Police were informed and reached the scene.

However,in the presence of police,the relatives declined to have the body shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital.

Peshawar: Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riyaz Khan Mehsud conducted a late evening visit to Bohr Bazaar to review ongoing efforts aimed at the permanent removal of encroachments, protection of pedestrian footpaths and improvement of traffic flow.

During the visit, the Commissioner inspected the installation of protective railings being carried out under the Peshawar Uplift Program Phase II. He directed Deputy Director Engineer Muhammad Adeel to ensure the project is completed as soon as possible while maintaining the highest construction standards.

Riyaz Khan Mehsud said the installation of railings would help keep footpaths safe for pedestrians, prevent the return of encroachments and further improve traffic movement in the busy commercial area.

He emphasized that providing citizens with a clean, safe, and well-organised urban environment remains the top priority of the divisional administration. He also instructed the relevant authorities to ensure timely completion of the project along with effective monitoring to guarantee its long-term success.

According to the divisional administration on Sunday, the initiative under Peshawar Uplift Program Phase II has already produced encouraging results. Encroachments in Bohr Bazaar have significantly decreased, pedestrian access has improved and traffic congestion has eased compared to previous conditions.

The administration reaffirmed its commitment to continuing similar development and urban management initiatives to enhance public convenience, city beautification and organized urban infrastructure across Peshawar.

Rawalpindi: City President, Labour Wing, Pakistan Muslim League (N) Metropolitan Corporation Rawalpindi Shabbir Ahmed has welcomed the federal government’s initiative to install new gas pipelines and upgrade the gas distribution network across Rawalpindi, and described it as a significant public welfare project.

In a statement here, Shabbir Ahmed thanked the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif for extending the facility to the residents of various union councils of the city.

He said the modernization of the city’s gas transmission system and the installation of new pipelines would improve gas supply and ensure better services for consumers.

He noted that the project would benefit residents in several parts of the city and district, including Raja Bazaar, Dhoke Hassu, Gawalmandi, Arya Mohalla, Bagh Sardaran, Kohati Bazaar, Banni, Mohanpura, Dhoke Kashmirian, Asghar Mall, Committee Chowk, Saddar, Rawalpindi Cantonment, Satellite Town, Chaklala, Westridge, Pirwadhai, Tench Bhatta, Dhamial, Adiala Road, Girja Road, Naseerabad, Gulzar-e-Quaid, and other suburban areas.

He expressed confidence that the project would significantly improve gas pressure, particularly during the winter season when consumers frequently face low-pressure issues. According to him, the enhanced distribution network would not only benefit domestic consumers but also support commercial and business activities by ensuring a more reliable gas supply.

Shabbir Ahmed said the provision of essential public services remains one of the government’s top priorities and that strengthening the gas infrastructure reflects this commitment. He added that the growing population and increasing urban demand had made the expansion of the gas distribution system a necessity.

He further said that the installation of new pipelines would make gas transmission more efficient, improve the stability of the supply network, and enhance service delivery for consumers in the future. He expressed hope that the project would be completed on schedule, enabling millions of residents across Rawalpindi district to benefit, especially through improved gas pressure during the winter months.

The PML-N Rawalpindi City president also commended the efforts of the relevant authorities involved in implementing the project and expressed optimism that other public welfare and development initiatives would also be completed at the same pace to improve the quality of life for residents in both urban and rural areas of the district.

Multan: A dining car of 28 Down Shalimar Express derailed near Khanewal due to a technical fault on Sunday. All passengers remained safe in the minor accident, railway officials said. Arrangements for food and refreshments were being made for the affected passengers. A relief train had been dispatched to the site, with railway officials reaching the spot to oversee restoration work. The Shorkot section was temporarily blocked as restoration work continued on an urgent basis. Officials said the track would soon be cleared. The mainline has since been cleared for all railway traffic, and train operations are proceeding normally.
