Bahawalpur: Awami National Party Bahawalpur chapter has demanded the federal government to make Bahawalpur airport operational for the facilitation of citizens. According to a press release issued by the ANP Bahawalpur office here on Sunday, Abida Khan, Central Vice President of the Awami National Party, had made a strong appeal to the Prime Minister to immediately reactivate Bahawalpur Airport so that the people of South Punjab, particularly those in Bahawalpur, could benefit from modern and efficient air travel facilities. She said that Bahawalpur was an important historical, educational, tourism, and commercial center, adding that however, due to the airport’s prolonged inactivity, residents, businesspersons, students, government employees, and people traveling abroad were facing considerable inconvenience. She opined that restoring operations at Bahawalpur Airport would not only improve travel facilities for the public but also boost trade, tourism, investment, and economic activity throughout the region
.

Peshawar: Flash floods triggered by glacial melting have caused destruction of some infrastructure in Upper Chitral, sweeping away the only bridge connecting Yarkhun Valley and leaving nearly 50,000 residents cut off from the rest of the district.

According to local reports on Sunday, a sudden surge in water flow at Bang Gol in Yarkhun area led to severe flooding, damaging homes, orchards and other properties while inundating several localities.

The floodwaters also washed away the only bridge over Bang Nullah, forcing the closure of the Yarkhun Valley Road to all traffic. As a result, the valley’s sole road link has been severed, isolating thousands of residents.

Authorities said the Mastuj-Broghil Road has also been closed to all types of traffic due to the flooding, creating significant transportation and logistical challenges for the local population.

Residents have appealed to the relevant authorities, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and humanitarian organizations to launch immediate relief operations, restore alternative routes and provide assistance to affected families.

Chiniot : Traffic police in Chiniot issued 342 challans and imposed fines exceeding Rs600,000 during a 24-hour enforcement campaign aimed at improving road safety and ensuring compliance with traffic laws, police said on Sunday.

The operation targeted a range of traffic violations, with action taken against 31 unlicensed drivers, 47 overloaded vehicles, five vehicles without registration plates, five underage drivers, six motorcyclists riding without helmets and six smoke-emitting vehicles. Police also issued challans for 213 other traffic offences.

District Police Officer Dr. Naveed Atif said the enforcement drive was part of broader efforts to ensure the safe movement of citizens. He added that traffic police were conducting awareness campaigns alongside enforcement measures to help reduce road accidents through greater public compliance with traffic regulations.

The DPO urged motorists to observe traffic laws for their own safety and that of others, adding that a special campaign was also underway to facilitate the issuance of driving licences. He encouraged citizens to obtain a valid driving licence as a demonstration of responsible and law-abiding driving.

Peshawar: A major drug smuggling attempt was foiled in Mardan district after the Excise Department seized a large quantity of narcotics from a vehicle on the Mardan-Charsadda Road.

According to officials on Sunday, the Excise Bureau of Intelligence and Investigation (Mardan Squad) carried out a successful operation on the basis of a tip-off.

During the raid, authorities intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number ACC-887 and recovered 2 kilograms of crystal meth (Ice) and 4 kilograms of heroin concealed inside the vehicle.

The narcotics were taken into custody and a case has been registered at the Excise Police Station, Mardan. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department reaffirmed its commitment to making the province drug-free, stating that indiscriminate operations against drug traffickers will continue and those involved in the narcotics trade will face strict legal action.

Hyderabad: More than 700 candidates appeared in the pre-entry test conducted by the University of Sindh on Sunday for admissions to various MPhil and PhD programmes offered under the Spring 2026 academic session.

According to the university spokesperson, 530 candidates took the test for admission to 38 MPhil programmes, while 183 candidates appeared for 33 PhD programmes. The 100-minute test commenced at 10: 15 am and concluded at 11: 55 am.

The examination process was reviewed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the main campus, Prof Dr Abdul Sattar Shah, who visited the examination centres along with Registrar Sajid Qayyum Memon.

He was also accompanied by Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Thatta Campus Prof Dr Misbah Bibi Qureshi, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Dadu Campus Prof Dr Aneela Naz Soomro, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Nanak Ram, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law Dr Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration Dr Javed Chandio, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences Dr Naheed Kaka, Dr Farhat Noreen, Controller of Examinations Muhammad Mashooq Siddiqui, Dr Ayaz Keerio, Dr Shahnawaz Chandio, Dr Muhammad Younis Laghari, Dr Rafiq Ahmed Lashari, Dr Khalid Lashari and other senior officials.

Members of the university syndicate, Prof Dr Irfana Mallah, Dr Muhammad Aqeel Bhutto and Prof Umeed Ali Rind also inspected the examination process and expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made for the candidates.

Director of the Testing Centre Dr Aftab Chandio, said the test was conducted in a peaceful, transparent and well-organised environment. He added that all necessary arrangements were made to facilitate the candidates and ensure merit and that the results would be announced later the same day.

Speaking after inspecting the examination centres, Prof Dr Abdul Sattar Shah said the University of Sindh remained committed to conducting its admissions process with complete transparency, fairness and strict adherence to merit.

He said the Alma Mater was dedicated to promoting quality higher education and research by providing equal opportunities to talented students.

He added that a conducive and peaceful examination environment had been ensured so that candidates could demonstrate their academic potential without any inconvenience.

Nawabshah: Shaheed Benazirabad Police continued its mission to reunite families, and in this regard, Madadgar 15 Nawabshah recovered two missing children and safely reunited them with their parents.

Under the special directives and supervision of SSP Shaheed Benazirabad, Sameer Noor Channa, Madadgar 15 Police, demonstrated a commendable act of public service by locating two missing children and reuniting them with their families.

According to a police spokesperson, Madadgar 15 Police acted promptly upon receiving information about the sudden disappearance of a 13-year-old boy, Akash, a resident of Nawabshah. The police team utilized modern technology along with traditional investigative methods and successfully recovered the missing child within a few hours.

The child was safely handed over to his distressed parents, who became emotional upon seeing him safe and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the police. In another incident, Madadgar 15 Police received information that a 10-year-old boy, Sarfraz, son of Rashid Jamali, had left home after being upset.

The police team immediately initiated a search operation and located the child within a short time. He was safely returned to his home. His father, Rashid Jamali, expressed deep appreciation for the timely and sincere efforts of the police. SSP Sameer Noor Channa said, ‘When a child goes missing, an entire household is lost.

A mother’s lap becomes empty and a father’s heart grows restless. He said that the duty of the police is not only to catch criminals but also to restore peace to every home. Madadgar 15 personnel are working day and night to ensure that no mother is separated from her child.

The smiles on these innocent faces are our greatest reward.’ SSP also appreciated the performance of Madadgar 15 Police team and reiterated that public service and child safety will always remain top priorities in the district.
