Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Department supplied a total of 306,303 bags of flour to consumers through 1,639 active flour dealers at official rates.
According to the department, 86,854 flour bags were supplied in Peshawar Division, 40,401 in Mardan Division, 59,264 in Malakand Division, 65,682 in Hazara Division, 20,700 in Bannu Division, 33,402 in Dera Ismail Khan Division and 23,224 in Kohat Division, said a release issued here on Monday.
Officials said that action was also taken against dealers and flour mills found violating prescribed SOPs and relevant laws governing the official flour supply mechanism. In Peshawar, the quota and licenses of 14 flour dealers were cancelled, while action was taken against 11 dealers in Khyber district.
Similarly, the official quota of one flour mill and seven dealers in Charsadda, and two flour mills and 15 dealers in Nowshera, was cancelled over violations.
Food Department officials said that 3,000 metric tons of government wheat were being released daily to flour mills from the provincial strategic reserve.
According to officials, the provincial government is providing a 20kg bag of government flour at Rs 2,520 through designated dealers to facilitate consumers.
The Food Department said that teams of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority and Food Department were regularly monitoring the quality of wheat and flour. Strict action would be taken against flour mills found supplying substandard flour, officials added.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Food Dr Muhammad Israr Khan urged citizens to remain vigilant about the quality of flour prepared from government wheat and immediately report any substandard flour to the relevant authorities.
He said that the quota of any flour mill found supplying substandard flour would be cancelled, besides initiating legal proceedings against the violators.
Dr Israr Khan said the KP government was taking all possible measures to ensure the provision of quality flour at affordable rates to the people.
