Lahore: Punjab Police have issued more than 5.242 million driving licences across the province during the current year as part of its ongoing measures to ensure compliance with traffic laws and improve public service delivery.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson on Tuesday, more than 6.487 million challans had been issued for violations of traffic laws, with fines amounting to over Rs12.19 billion imposed on violators.
The spokesperson said challans had also been issued to 47,152 smoke-emitting vehicles, while 6,921 vehicles were impounded at police stations. Fitness certificates of 28 vehicles were also confiscated for violations.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem directed that action against traffic law violators continue without interruption and that compliance with amended traffic laws, reforms and modern systems be ensured.
He directed police to continue crackdowns against overloading, overspeeding, underage driving and violations of one-way traffic rules.
The IGP further ordered strict and indiscriminate action against traffic law violations and directed officials to take effective measures for recovery of outstanding traffic fines from defaulters.
The spokesperson said the measures were aimed at improving road safety, ensuring compliance with traffic laws and providing better services to citizens.
