Amir Muqam criticizes at Imran Khan s ‘self-centered’ politics


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs and States and Frontier Regions, Engr Amir Muqam Friday strongly criticized PTI founder Imran Khan, stating that Khan prioritizes self-defense over the country’s interests, questioning his commitment to the nation’s well-being.



In an exclusive interview with a private news channel, he urged the PTI to engage in dialogue with the government to address pressing economic issues and work towards the country’s betterment, rather than pursuing self-centered politics.



While responding to a query, Muqam clarified that the government’s negotiation committee does not have the authority to decide on the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, adding, instead, the decision will be made by the courts, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and allowing the judicial process to run its course.He encouraged PTI to take the legal route, allowing the courts to determine Khan’s fate.



Muqam also urged PTI to seize the negotiation opportunity and make the roundtable discussion a success as this approach can only lead to a mutually beneficial outcome, where both parties find common ground and work together to address pressing issues.



Police arrest 12 land grabbers

Rawalpindi: Rawat Police in an operation managed to arrest 12 land grabbers, said a Police spokesman here on Friday.

He informed that 12 accused namely Abdullah, Shafiq, Sumandar Khan, Gul Khan, Saboon, Asif, Ashfaq, Ismail, Farid, Azizur Rehman, Abdul Qadeer and Waqar allegedly involved in occupying a plot in Rawat area were rounded up.

The accused also tried to implicate their opponents by injuring an accomplice Ramzan with firing.

Rawat police are making efforts to arrest other accomplices of the accused, the spokesman informed.

Superintendent of Police, Saddar said that the arrested accused will be charged with solid evidence.

The land grabbers cannot escape the clutches of the law, SP Saddar, Muhammad Nabeel Khokhar added.

Post-Polio campaign reviewed in district polio eradication committee meeting


Abbottabad: Meeting of the District Polio Eradication Committee Friday was held to review the district’s polio control and eradication initiatives, particularly focusing on the post-polio campaign. Meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Usman Ashraf.



During the session, the health department presented a comprehensive briefing on the post-polio campaign’s performance. Acknowledging the collective efforts, ADC Muhammad Usman Ashraf commended the dedication of health teams, police personnel, and volunteers for ensuring the campaign’s success. He emphasized the importance of sustained inter-departmental collaboration to eradicate polio completely and protect children from this life-threatening disease.

CDNS achieves Rs 700 billion savings target by first half of FY, 2024-25


Islamabad: The Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) has realized a target of Rs 700 billion in fresh bonds and achieved 42.42 percent of the annual target for the first half of the current fiscal year, from July 1 to December 31st.



The senior official of CDNS told reporter on Friday that the CDNS has set an annual target of Rs 1650 billion for the current Fiscal Year, 2024-25, which will promote the country’s saving culture.



Similarly, the CDNS has set a target of Rs 170 billion in investment in Islamic finance for the Current Fiscal Year, which will lead to the growth of the Islamic economy in the country.



Replying to a question, he said that the CDNS has realized a target of Rs1.742 trillion in fresh bonds and exceeded 100 percent of the annual target in the last fiscal year 2023-24, from July 1 to June 30.



National Savings has set an annual target of Rs 1.7 trillion for the year 2023-24; it is encouraging that this year, ‘We surpassed the 100 percent of the annual target.’



The CDNS surpassed the annual target and achieved the target of Rs 1.6 trillion in fresh bonds in the previous fiscal year 2022-23, he said.



He said it was an Rs 200 billion additional annual target than the target of Rs 1300 billion for the previous financial year 2021-22.



The CDNS has set a reviewed saving target of Rs 1.4 trillion for the financial year (2021-22) which will promote a savings culture in the country, he said, adding that given the current market trend in the country, the ambitious target had been set to further improve the savings culture.



The official said that work was being done on institutional reforms in CDNS and new reforms and innovations were being introduced. At this time Automated Teller Machine (ATM) has also been introduced in CDNS which will provide enough facilities to the users,’ he added.



The official said that the directorate had set a target of Rs 75 billion for the new financial year 2023-24 for Islamic finance bonds.



Replying to a question; he said the CDNS aimed to introduce new dimensions in the Islamic finance sector.



Islamic finance has a very important role in the global financial sector at this time and a large part of the economy of many major countries currently includes Islamic finance,’ he added.
