Peshawar: An orientation and sensitization workshop was organized by the Emergency Operations Centre, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the support of United Nations Children Fud (UNICEF), for deputy commissioners of 22 priority districts of the province on polio eradication, essential immunization, and integrated service delivery here on Thursday.
The activity was planned to strengthen district-level understanding, coordination, leadership, and ownership of the Polio Eradication Program.
Participants of the workshop were briefed on Polio Eradication Program, key roles and responsibilities, operational challenges, standard operating procedures (SOPs), campaign planning, and district-level coordination.
The workshop was attended by the Secretary Health KP, NEOC Coordinator, Chairman Rotary PolioPlus Committee, CDC Advisor, Team Lead WHO, Technical Focal Person NEOC, Deputy Commissioners from 22 districts, and the EOC Core Team.
Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah, joined the workshop online and shared his remarks, emphasizing strong leadership, ownership, coordination, and effective monitoring of polio eradication activities at the district level.
Secretary Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fayaz Ali Shah, also shared his remarks, stressing the importance of strong district-level leadership, effective coordination, close monitoring, and collective efforts to ensure that every child is reached with the polio vaccine.
Additional Secretary Health and Coordinator EOC, Shafi Ullah Khan, in his detailed briefing, highlighted key program priorities, including the roles and responsibilities of district teams, campaign planning, addressing operational challenges, adherence to SOPs, and strengthening coordination among district administration, District Emergency Operations Centers (DEOCs), health teams, and other stakeholders.
Dr. Rana Safdar, CDC Advisor; Dr. Altaf Bosan, Technical Focal Person NEOC; and Dr. Soghair, Team Lead WHO, also shared their remarks, highlighting the importance of effective planning, strong coordination, district-level ownership, teamwork, and continued efforts to strengthen polio eradication activities.
The session was organized for the Deputy Commissioners of Bajaur, Bannu, Charsadda, D. I Khan, Dir Lower, Dir Upper, Hangu, Karak, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Mansehra, Mardan, Mohmand, North Waziristan, Orakzai, Peshawar, South Wairistan Lower, South Waziristan Upper, Tank and Torghar.
