Rawalpindi police vows strict action to curb child abuse and violence

Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Police have launched a special awareness campaign and intensify a crackdown against physical and sexual abuse of children.

On the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, the police will step up efforts to protect children from physical and sexual violence and take strict action against those involved in such offences.

As part of the initiative, special awareness campaigns will be conducted in different areas of the district, while action will also be taken against individuals involved in child labour and violence against children.

According to police spokesperson, several suspects allegedly involved in cases of child sexual abuse in Rawalpindi were arrested during the past month and legal proceedings were initiated against them.

The police are also continuing measures for child protection in coordination with the Child Protection Welfare Bureau (CPWB).

Meanwhile, police have taken notice of the death of nine-year-old madrassa student Muhammad Faizan, who allegedly died after being subjected to violence within the limits of Kallar Syedan Police Station.

A case has been registered and three suspects have been taken into custody for questioning.

The deceased, who belonged to Bhakkar, had arrived at the madrassa in Kallar Syedan around four months ago to pursue religious education.

Police said the boy’s body was shifted to Bhakkar, where his family noticed marks of alleged physical abuse on his body during the bathing process and contacted police.

Kallar Syedan Police subsequently arranged a post-mortem examination, registered a case and detained the suspects.

City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera said that physical or sexual violence against children would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He directed that indiscriminate legal action be taken against those involved in such heinous acts and assured that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure the safety and protection of children.
