Lahore: The Punjab Home Department has suspended two senior prison officers for 90 days over allegations of inefficiency, negligence and misconduct as part of the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen merit, discipline and accountability in the prison system.
According to a Home Department spokesperson, Superintendent Central Jail Mianwali Rasool Bakhsh and Deputy Superintendent Executive Asad Tariq have been placed under suspension. Suspension orders have been issued and departmental proceedings initiated against the officers under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act, 2006.
The suspended officers have been directed to report to the Inspectorate of Prisons, Punjab.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Siddique Gill has been appointed Superintendent Central Jail Mianwali, while Arif Shehzad has been posted as Superintendent District Jail Bhakkar. Samiullah Khan has also been assigned the additional charge of Deputy Superintendent Executive, Central Jail Mianwali.
The spokesperson said the Punjab Home Department had established rules and regulations governing the administration and management of prisons across the province and was committed to ensuring their effective implementation.
He said the department was pursuing a zero-tolerance policy towards inefficiency, mismanagement and violations of rules and regulations, adding that disciplinary action would be taken against officials found responsible for such lapses.
