Umer Sharif remembered on fifth death anniversary

Islamabad: King of comedy, actor, stage and TV personality Umer Sharif was remembered on his fifth death anniversary on Friday.



Born in Karachi on April 19, 1960, Umer Sharif earned widespread recognition for his distinctive style of comedy and made a lasting contribution to Pakistan’s entertainment industry.



His notable stage plays included Bakra Qistoon Pe and Buddha Ghar Pe Hai, which gained immense popularity among audiences.



In recognition of his artistic contributions, Umer Sharif received National Awards for Best Director and Best Actor in 1992.



He also made history by becoming the only actor to receive four Nigar Awards in a single year, besides receiving three Graduate Awards.



He was also honoured with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan in recognition of his contributions to the entertainment industry.



Umer Sharif died in Germany on October 2, 2021.
