Multan: The death of a woman, initially reported as a suicide, took a new turn as police registered a murder case against an accused allegedly involved in the incident.
Police registered the case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code against accused Ishfaq on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Arshad Ali. According to the FIR, the accused allegedly administered poisonous pills to Shameem Akhtar, who later died during treatment at Nishtar Hospital.
Earlier, the deceased had approached Budhala Sunnat Police Station and accused Ishfaq and his accomplices of physically assaulting her. Police conducted her medical examination but did not register a case due to insufficient evidence, following which the woman allegedly consumed poisonous pills.
The matter was taken up by the Regional Police Officer (RPO), who suspended the SHO of Budhala Sunnat Police Station, the investigation officer, the moharrir and DSP New Multan. The suspended officials were later arrested and sent to judicial remand by a judicial magistrate on Friday.
Police said the case was being investigated from all angles and the actual circumstances leading to the woman’s death would be determined after completion of the investigation.
