Rawalpindi: City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi have devised a comprehensive traffic plan for the Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) celebrations to ensure smooth traffic flow.
According to CTP spokesperson, more than 910 traffic police officers and traffic wardens will be deployed to manage traffic and ensure smooth movement during the religious event. Two major processions will be taken out in Rawalpindi.
The first procession will begin from Jamia Masjid Hanfia on Jamia Masjid Road and pass through Pul Shah Nazar, Banni Chowk, Murree Road, Committee Chowk, Liaquat Road, Fawara Chowk and Dingi Khoi before concluding at the central camp at Jamia Masjid.
During the procession, Murree Road will remain completely closed in both directions from the Rawal Road turn to Liaquat Bagh.
Traffic diversions will also be placed in phases along the procession route.
Traffic heading from Rawalpindi towards Islamabad will be diverted from Liaquat Bagh onto Tipu Road, while traffic moving from Islamabad towards Saddar will be diverted at the Rawal Road turn towards Rawal Road.
Traffic proceeding from Liaquat Bagh towards Fawara Chowk will be diverted from DAV College towards Gawalmandi.
The second procession will begin from 22 Number Chungi and pass through Tanch Road, Dhoke Syedan Chowk, Kalma Chowk, 22 Number Chowk, Adiala Road, the State Life Building turn, MH Chowk, Mehfooz Chowk, Mansehra Adda, Cantt Police Station, Nishter Street, Adam Jee Road, Mithu Khan Ahata, Railway Road, Kamran Market and conclude at GTS Chowk, the former Varan Bus Stand.
During the second procession, traffic approaching 22 Number Chowk from Kalma Chowk will be diverted towards Harley Street.
Traffic heading towards Khattak Chowk, CMH and Tench will also be diverted towards Harley Street.
When the procession reaches Mall Road, traffic coming from Peshawar Road will be diverted at Qasim Market towards Sher Khan Road.
Traffic passing through from Katchery Chowk towards Peshawar Road will be diverted at TM Chowk towards Murree Road.
CTO Farhan Aslam said that the entry of tractor-trolleys, trailers, trucks and other heavy vehicles into the procession routes would be completely prohibited.
Parking around the stages set up for the processions would also not be allowed.
He said additional traffic personnel had been deployed at various points to keep traffic moving on alternative routes during diversions.
A special traffic management plan has also been prepared to ensure the smooth movement of ambulances, fire brigades and other emergency vehicles.
The CTO appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel within the city during the Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) celebrations and contact the traffic police helpline in case of any difficulty or emergency.
