Sialkot: A ceremony was held at Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) to commemorate Pakistan’s 79th year of Independence with patriotic fervour.
The event featured a tree plantation drive, flag-hoisting ceremony, student parade, national anthem, Naat-e-Rasool, Allama Iqbal’s poetry, national songs and other activities.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Enforcement) Sialkot Sult Hayat Wattoo, along with Dawood Sair and Azra Sabtain of the Alumni Association, attended the ceremony as special guests.
The ceremony began with a tree plantation drive, followed by the hoisting of the national flag and a dignified parade by university students. The national anthem, Naat-e-Rasool, poetry of Allama Iqbal and national songs further strengthened the spirit of patriotism among the participants.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir said Pakistan was a great blessing that came into existence on the 27th of Ramadan and that no power in the world could erase it.
She said Pakistan was the nation’s identity, hope and guarantee for the future. She stressed that every citizen had a responsibility to demonstrate love for the country and play a constructive role in safeguarding its security and sovereignty.
The vice chancellor said love for the homeland was part of faith and called upon the participants to pledge to fulfil their respective responsibilities for Pakistan’s progress, prosperity and stability with honesty, sincerity and hard work.
She said if the nation rose above individual interests and worked collectively as one, it could fulfil its responsibilities and lay the foundation for a strong, developed and prosperous Pakistan.
