Sukkur: Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur celebrated Pakistan’s 79th Independence Anniversary with national spirit and enthusiasm. For the first time in university history, celebrations were held simultaneously at Main Campus Khairpur, Ghotki Campus and Shahdadkot Campus on Friday.
The main flag hoisting ceremony was performed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk at the Flag Lawn, in presence of Pro-VC, Deans, faculty, officers and students.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Khushk said Independence Day is a time to reflect on our contribution to Pakistan.
Pakistan’s future is sitting before us today. These children will write the story of Pakistan in 2047 and beyond, he said. He said that the Pakistan’s greatest wealth is not beneath the ground, but in the minds of its young people.
He urged youth to combine degrees with skills, AI, research and innovation, and to become skilled professionals needed by the world. He called on everyone to make at least one positive contribution to Pakistan before next Independence Day.
The celebrations included cake-cutting, traditional Malakhro, tug-of-war, and a colourful PT show by SALU Model School students. A tree plantation drive was also organized in collaboration with HBL Bank SALU Branch. The VC planted a sapling in front of the Faculty of Science.
A mega event was held at Allama I. I. Kazi Hall where Model School students presented patriotic tableaus, milli naghmas and speeches.
On the occasion, the VC appreciated Model School students who secured A1 grades in Matric and Intermediate. He announced a major Independence Day gift: Mandatory AI Education will be introduced at SALU Model School from Class VI to Matric. A committee has been formed for this purpose.
Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Wahid Bakhsh Jatoi, Deans, Principal Farzana Jamali and other speakers highlighted the value of freedom, national unity and the role of armed forces.
The VC appreciated the teams of SALU Model School, A.O. Colony and Student Affairs, teachers, parents and students for making the event successful. Proceedings were conducted by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari.
The ceremony concluded with a pledge to uphold unity, faith, discipline and service to the nation.
