Lahore: Police have arrested the accused in the Ghaziabad rape case and completed several key investigative and forensic procedures, while further investigation is being conducted on merit to ensure that the accused is brought to justice.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday, the victim’s initial medico-legal examination (MLC) was conducted and all required medical tests were completed. The accused also underwent a potency test.
The relevant forensic parcels were collected and submitted, while DNA examination of the available samples was also conducted. CCTV footage from all cameras installed at Ghaziabad Police Station, including the front desk, was secured and taken into custody for investigation.
Statements of the victim, complainant, relatives and other relevant persons were recorded, while site plans of the crime scene were prepared. The accused’s motorcycle was also taken into police custody.
Police also examined the movement and locations of the accused and the victim at different times. Safe City CCTV footage was checked and preserved on a CD, while CCTV footage from local cameras relevant to the investigation was also obtained.
The police said all officials found responsible for negligence had been suspended and departmental inquiries had been initiated against them.
Sessions for assessment of the victim’s mental health were also conducted at the Punjab Institute of Mental Health. According to the institute’s report, the woman has a mild intellectual disability.
The Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) report had also been received. According to the report, the DNA of accused Imran, an ASI, did not match the samples obtained from the victim.
Police said further investigation into the Ghaziabad case was being conducted strictly on merit and all legal requirements were being fulfilled. The accused would be brought to justice and awarded punishment in accordance with the law, if found guilty, the police added.
