Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has intensified its campaign against counterfeit and adulterated food products, conducting coordinated raids across the province and taking action against violators.
Acting on the directives of Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Food, Muhammad Israr Khan, food safety teams carried out inspections in Peshawar, Mardan and Haripur.
In Peshawar’s Peepal Mandi, officials seized nearly 1, 400 counterfeit packs of branded spices, fake vinegar and other mislabelled food products during a raid.
In Takht Bhai, Mardan, a joint operation by the Food Safety Authority and the district administration uncovered a unit producing artificial milk.
Following on-site testing through a mobile food testing laboratory, authorities discarded 2, 000 litres of artificial milk, seized the manufacturing machinery and initiated legal proceedings against those responsible.
Meanwhile, in Haripur, food safety officials disposed of 1, 500 litres of substandard beverages, imposed heavy fines on violators and renewed the licences of several food businesses through the authority’s e-licensing system.
Israr Khan said the provincial government would continue indiscriminate action against those involved in the production and sale of counterfeit, adulterated and substandard food products.
He said that there would be no compromise on public health or food safety.
