Sindh govt decides to organize sports events, flag-hoisting ceremony


Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to organize sports events, flag-hoisting ceremonies and cake-cutting ceremonies across all divisions and districts of the province on the occasions of Independence Day and Defence Day.



A key meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar, regarding the organization of sports events across the province on Independence Day (14 August) and Defence Day (6 September). Secretary Sports Munawar Ali Mahesar and Director Sports Asad Ishaq gave a detailed briefing to the provincial minister about the arrangements.



During the meeting, the Sindh Sports Minister directed all District Sports Officers (DSOs) and relevant officials to complete all arrangements immediately to commemorate the Independence Day and Defence Day celebrations with national spirit and enthusiasm.



Bux Mahar said that on August 14 and September 6, various sports competitions would be organized across the province, along with flag-hoisting and cake-cutting ceremonies in all divisions and districts of Sindh. He added that through sports activities across Karachi’s districts and the entire province, national unity, patriotism, and the importance of independence would be highlighted.



He informed that in District Malir, competitions of self-defense, football, cricket, mixed martial arts, boxing, and traditional games would be held, while mixed martial arts and judo competitions would take place at Sindh Youth Club Gulistan-e-Jauhar. In Karachi Central District, badminton, gymnastics, and roller skating events would be organized.



According to the Sindh Sports Minister, various sports events would also be held in Badin, Tando Allahyar, Dadu, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Qambar Shahdadkot, Tharparkar, Shikarpur, and Jacobabad. In Hyderabad, eight different sports competitions would be held under the Independence Day Sports Gala Festival, while in Larkana, badminton, football, basketball, table tennis, and volleyball competitions would take place.



He said that in Thatta, an Inter-School Girls’ Independence Sports Festival would feature throw ball, badminton, table tennis, and tug-of-war competitions, while in Mirpurkhas, from 6 to 14 August, inter-school girls’ and boys’ competitions in basket ball, kodi kodi, hockey, and other sports would be organized.



Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar further stated that in Ghotki, a mini marathon and a kodi kodi match between Sindh and Punjab teams would be held on August 14, while in Shaheed Benazirabad, shooting ball, football, cricket, hockey, Wanjh Watti, and ring ball competitions would be organized under the Sports Festival. In Sukkur, the All Sindh Futsal Championship, taekwondo, cycling race, and basketball events would be held, while in Sanghar, various sports would be organized under the Independence Day Sports Festival.



The Sindh Sports Minister said that through sports, patriotism, national unity, and positive thinking would be promoted among the youth. To encourage healthy activities and the spirit of positive competition, various sports were being organized. He added that players and teams showing outstanding performance would be encouraged, youth across the province would be given full opportunities to participate in sports activities, and the Sindh government wold continue to take practical steps to promote sports among the youth.
