Sukkur: The Begum Nusrat Bhutto Women University (BNBWU), Sukkur, observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with an awareness session aimed at promoting student well being and a drug free academic environment.

The event was organized under the direction of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj as part of the university’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about mental health and the dangers of substance abuse.

The session was held in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Sindh. Expert speakers included Hamad, Focal Person ANF Sindh who joined online, Mr. Hamza, Investigation Officer ANF Sindh, and Dr. Sana Aslam, Clinical Psychologist. The speakers shed light on drug prevention strategies, mental health, and the shared responsibility of building a drug-free society.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj said that youth are the nation’s greatest asset and stressed the need to protect their physical, mental, and emotional well being. She urged students to reject drugs and adopt healthy, productive lifestyles.

The Vice Chancellor further encouraged students to act as ambassadors of awareness and play an active role in creating a safe and drug free community.

The session concluded with a strong pledge by students and faculty to support anti-drug initiatives and promote informed, healthy life choices on campus.

Hyderabad: The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sindh’s Main Campus Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Shah has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the day-to-day academic and administrative affairs of the university following the departure of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Mari (TI) on a five-day official visit to the People’s Republic of China.

The SU spokesperson informed that an official notification issued by the Registrar Sajid Qayoom Memon, stating that PVC Main Campus Dr. Abdul Sattar Shah will discharge the responsibilities of the day to day matters of the University from July 5 to July 9, 2026, ensuring the smooth functioning of the university during Dr. Mari’s absence.

The notification states that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Mari (TI) has been granted five days’ Ex-Pakistan leave to visit Beijing Language and Culture University in China. The visit has been approved by the Universities and Boards Department of the Government of Sindh.

During his official visit, Dr. Marri is expected to hold meetings with university authorities to promote academic cooperation, strengthen institutional linkages and explore opportunities for collaborative research, faculty development and student exchange programs between the University of Sindh and Chinese higher education institutions.

Wah cantt: Wah Cantt police have arrested a proclaimed offender wanted in a murder case since 2006, officials said on Tuesday.

According to police, the suspect had allegedly opened fire on a man along with his accomplices following a minor altercation. The injured man later died while undergoing treatment, after which a murder case was registered.

Police said the suspect had been evading arrest since 2006 and was declared a proclaimed offender by the court.

Using technical assistance and human intelligence, Wah Cantt police traced and arrested the suspect during an intelligence-based operation, officials said.

Police added that two of the suspect’s alleged accomplices had already been arrested, while further investigation into the case is underway.

The arrested suspect will be produced before the relevant court in accordance with legal procedure. The allegations against him are yet to be examined by a court of law, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Kot addu: The district administration of Kot Addu called a high-level meeting to implement the demands of visually impaired persons following a successful sit-in protest and subsequent negotiations, officials said. According to the district administration spokesperson, the administration has begun practical steps after peaceful negotiations with visually impaired persons who staged a sit-in to press for their constitutional, legal and basic rights.

The Deputy Commissioner Kot Adu has convened meeting on July 8, 2026, at 11am in the DC Office Committee Room to ensure implementation of the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act 2022 and the demands listed in the charter of demands submitted by the visually impaired community. Assistant Commissioners, the Deputy Director Social Welfare, and CEOs of the Education and Health Authorities have been called to attend, along with HR managers from local sugar and textile mills representing the private sector.

The meeting agenda includes transparent implementation of the three percent employment quota in public and private sectors, provision of accessibility and mobility facilities for visually impaired persons in government and private buildings, a 50 percent fare concession on public transport, the registration process, and the functioning of District Welfare and Rehabilitation Units (DWRUs). Visually impaired persons had staged a sit-in on GT Road outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office on June 29, 2026, demanding jobs and other basic rights. Following successful negotiations with the protesters, the administration formally incorporated their demands into the official agenda. Representatives of the visually impaired community termed the development a positive step toward securing their legitimate rights.

Sukkur: The online registration for recruitment in the Pakistan Air Force for Aero Trade, Aero Support, PFandDI, Security, MTD, Fire Fighter, Medical Assistant and Music Trades will remain open from July 6 to July 19, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Air Force Information and Selection Centre, Sukkur on Tuesday, the candidates have been advised to complete their online registration within the given dates.

Faisalabad: Divisional Commissioner Madam Musarrat Jabeen, on Tuesday listened to public grievances and directed the departments concerned to ensure their immediate resolution as unnecessary delays and hurdles in providing relief to citizens would not be tolerated. During a public hearing at the Commissioner Complex, she met citizens, heard their complaints and issued on the spot orders to the departments concerned for prompt redressal of their grievances. She said that doors of Commissioner Office were open to all citizens without discrimination.

She urged people to approach the office without hesitation to present their genuine grievances. She said that resolving public complaints on priority basis remained one of the foremost responsibilities of the divisional administration and directed departmental officers to ensure that citizens received timely relief without avoidable delays. She made it clear that any obstacle in resolving public issues would be viewed seriously, adding that the administration was committed to ensuring efficient, transparent and people-friendly governance in line with the vision of Punjab government.

Expressing displeasure over the unjustified delay in processing some applications, she reprimanded the officers concerned and directed them to improve their performance immediately. The DC also warned the officials against forcing citizens to make repeated visits to government offices for the same matter and said that such practices were unacceptable and would invite strict departmental action if found to be caused by negligence or inefficiency. She reiterated that public service delivery would continue to be monitored closely and that officers would be held accountable for ensuring timely and effective resolution of citizens’ problems.
