Lahore: The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) celebrated the 79th years of Independence with national fervour, with Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen Muhammad Saeed (retd) hoisting the national flag at WAPDA House here on Friday.
Member (Finance) Naveed Asghar Chaudhry and Member (Power) Muhammad Arfan Miana, along with a large number of WAPDA officers, employees and their families, attended the ceremony.
The flag-hoisting was followed by performances of Milli Naghmas by students of WAPDA Girls High School, Barotha, who were specially invited to Lahore to participate in the Independence Day celebrations.
Addressing the ceremony, the WAPDA chairman congratulated the participants on Independence Day and appreciated the students and their teachers for their soulful performances, said they had infused the gathering with patriotic spirit.
He advised the youth to adopt a positive attitude and move forward with confidence, adding that the nation should take pride in its achievements during 79 years of independence and make sincere efforts for the development and prosperity of Pakistan.
Earlier, the chairman distributed certificates among students of WAPDA Girls High School, Barotha.
As part of the celebrations, the iconic WAPDA House was illuminated in green, with a large illuminated national flag displayed at its centre, symbolising national pride.
