Funeral prayers held for three Punjab Police martyrs in Lahore

Lahore: Funeral prayers for martyred Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq, Head Constable Asad and Constable Haris Saleem were offered at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh here on Friday.

Lahore Corps Commander, Punjab finance minister, chief secretary, Home secretary, inspector general Punjab Police, capital city police officer Lahore, additional IGs, DIGs and senior officers and personnel of the armed forces and law-enforcement agencies attended the funeral.

A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour to the bodies of the martyrs.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, Lahore Corps Commander laid wreaths on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces and offered Fateha for the departed souls.

The Corps Commander, IGP Punjab and senior police and military leadership also met the bereaved families and paid tribute to the supreme sacrifices rendered by the three officials.

They assured the families that they would not be left alone and that the welfare and well-being of the bereaved families would be fully looked after.

SI Adeel, HC Asad and Constable Haris were martyred in firing by suspects on Thursday night, added spokesperson.

He said the three police officials were killed in firing by Rehan Butt and his accomplices.

Rehan Butt had allegedly been threatening SI Adeel over the phone, while a case had also been registered against him.

The spokesperson said suspect Faizan Butt, a shooter, had been killed in an encounter with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in 2024. His brother Rehan Butt allegedly harboured a grudge against police over the death of Faizan.

The bodies of the three martyrs were later transported to their native areas under full police protocol for burial, the spokesperson added.
