Lahore: The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) on Friday celebrated the 80th Independence Day with flag-hoisting ceremonies held at its installations and field offices across the country.
The central ceremony was held at the TSG Training Centre in New Kot Lakhpat, Lahore, where Chairman Board of Directors Dr Fiaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Managing Director Engr Altaf Hussain Malik hoisted the national flag and cut the Independence Day cake.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Fiaz Ahmad paid tribute to the sacrifices made during the struggle for independence and emphasised the collective responsibility of citizens to prioritise national interests over personal gains.
He said Pakistan’s path to prosperity lay in learning from past experiences while promoting peace, unity and national cohesion. He called upon the participants to renew their commitment to the fundamental principles that had led to the creation of Pakistan.
Engr Altaf Hussain also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the forefathers and urged NGC employees to contribute to Pakistan’s progress and prosperity with honesty and a sense of responsibility.
He said NGC was the backbone of the country’s power system and played a key role in meeting national electricity requirements. ‘With professional excellence, innovation, teamwork and a spirit of national service, we will continue our journey towards building a more reliable National Grid,’ he said.
The NGC managing director said the company was also moving towards becoming a regional transmission company by completing the CASA-1000 project and establishing connectivity with Iran.
Children of NGC employees presented patriotic songs and tableaux, showcasing their love and pride for Pakistan.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the chief guests planted commemorative saplings and inaugurated the newly renovated hostel at the TSG Training Centre.
Deputy Managing Director (ADandM) Engr Rasheed A. Bhutto, executive directors, general managers, C-Suite officers, director generals, sportspersons, female employees and a large number of NGC officers and staff attended the ceremony.
