Karachi: Mayor of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has hoisted the national flag in a dignified Independence Day ceremony held at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) main building, here on Friday.
Members of the City Council, elected representatives, officers and employees attended the ceremony. On the occasion, the Mayor Murtaza Wahab extended Independence Day greetings to the nation as well as Pakistanis living across the world.
Addressing the ceremony, he said that freedom was a great blessing bestowed by Allah Almighty, adding that its true value could be understood by nations deprived of freedom. He said that Independence Day reminded the nation of its love for the motherland, loyalty to the country and responsibility to play a practical role in its development.
Wahab said, ‘The joy of independence should not remain confined to August 14. The entire nation should work throughout the year with a spirit of serving the country and enhancing its dignity.’ He stressed the need to follow the principles of faith, unity and principle.
He said that the nation would remain united against any threat to Pakistan’s sovereignty and integrity. The Mayor said that the Pakistani nation would stand like a strong wall in defence of the country and described the Independence Day as an occasion to remember the unprecedented sacrifices and struggles.
