Sukkur: Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great national enthusiasm and patriotic spirit across Shikarpur district on Friday where flag-hoisting ceremonies were held at various government offices, public institutions and other important locations.
The main ceremonies were organized at the Divisional Scout Headquarters, District Council, Municipal Committee, Civil Hospital and other locations. The national flag was hoisted with full patriotic ferver while special prayers were offered for the security, prosperity, development and stability of Pakistan. Birds were also released as a symbolic gesture of freedom, while tree plantation activities were carried out at the Divisional Scout Headquarters.
Deputy Commissioner Shikarpur Shakil Ahmed Abro, District Council Chairman Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Kamario, Municipal Committee Chairman Sardarzada Haji Fayyaz Mahmood Sheikh, ASP City Muhammad Asif, Rangers officers, police officers and personnel, district administration officials, government employees, education department officials and teachers, as well as a large number of students from schools, colleges and universities and citizens attended the Independence Day ceremonies.
Addressing a ceremony at the District Scout Headquarters, Municipal Committee Chairman Sardarzada Haji Fayyaz Mahmood Sheikh said that August 14 was celebrated with great enthusiasm and that the occasion provided an opportunity to express love for the country and reaffirm commitment to Pakistan’s security, prosperity, progress and stability.
District Council Chairman Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Kamario said that Independence Day reminded the nation of the sacrifices made by the leaders and people of the subcontinent for the creation of Pakistan. He said that freedom was not merely an occasion for celebration but also a responsibility to uphold the values of unity, faith, discipline, tolerance, democracy and national service.
At the District Council ceremony, children delivered speeches in Sindhi, Urdu and English highlighting the significance of Pakistan’s Independence Day. The District Council Chairman distributed cash prizes among the participating children, while a cake was also cut to mark the 79th Independence Day.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Shakil Ahmed Abro said that Independence Day reminded the nation of the blessing of freedom, the wisdom and leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and the unforgettable sacrifices of the country’s elders and founding generation.
‘Freedom is a trust, and protecting it is the collective responsibility of all of us,’ he said. He urged citizens to rise above personal differences and follow the principles of unity, faith and discipline. He expressed the hope that Shikarpur, like the rest of Pakistan, would be transformed into a centre of education, healthcare and prosperity.
The Deputy Commissioner said the district administration remained committed to serving the people and maintaining peace and order in the district.
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, Deputy Commissioner Shakil Ahmed Abro also visited Civil Hospital Shikarpur, where he cut a cake with the paramedical staff to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day. He visited the dialysis unit and other wards, inquired about the health and treatment of patients and prayed for their early recovery. Sweets were also distributed among the patients on the occasion.
The celebrations concluded with enthusiastic slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’, reflecting the strong patriotic spirit of the people. Shikarpur city was decorated with national flags and buntings, while citizens displayed great enthusiasm and fervour throughout the Independence Day celebrations.
