Hyderabad: District Health Officer Hyderabad, Pir Ghulam Hussain, has urged residents of Hyderabad and surrounding areas to take necessary precautions against dengue in the wake of recent rains.
He advised citizens to ensure that water does not accumulate in homes, streets or neighbourhoods, as stagnant clean water provides ideal breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes.
The DHO said that water containers, tanks, coolers, flowerpots and other places where water can collect should be cleaned regularly and kept properly covered. He also advised people to use mosquito nets and wear full-sleeved clothing to protect themselves from mosquito bites.
DHO further urged citizens to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility if they develop symptoms of dengue, including high fever, severe headache, body and joint aches, pain behind the eyes or unusual weakness. He advised the public to avoid taking medicines without medical advice.
He appealed to citizens to extend their full cooperation to the Health Department in efforts to control and eliminate dengue and to maintain cleanliness in and around their homes and neighbourhoods.
