Gujrat: The central ceremony to mark the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan was held at the District Council Gujrat, with the participation of senior district officials, elected representatives and people from different walks of life.
According to official sources, Deputy Commissioner Gujrat Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi, District Police Officer Akhtar Farooq, MPAs Chaudhry Ijaz Rania, Khalid Asghar Gharal and Syed Madad Ali Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Waqas Safdar Sikandari, Additional Assistant Commissioner Sohail Khan, City PML-N President Ali Abrar Johra, Chief Officer District Council Syed Faraz Mehdi, district officers, members of the peace committee, traders, civil society representatives and students attended the ceremony.
The national flag was hoisted at 8:50 a.m., followed by a salute. The deputy commissioner and DPO also planted saplings at the District Council lawns.
Students of Jinnah Public School Gujrat presented national songs, while students participated in various programmes arranged to mark Independence Day and expressed their love for the country.
Speakers paid tribute to the martyrs and national heroes who rendered sacrifices during the Pakistan Movement and for the security, progress and prosperity of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi said independence was a great blessing that every Pakistani should value. She said people from different walks of life had rendered countless sacrifices for the country’s security, development and prosperity since the creation of Pakistan, which the nation would always remember.
