Lahore: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi on Friday led an Independence Day motorcycle rally and warned that one-wheeling, racing and dangerous drifting would not be allowed under any circumstances.
The CTO hoisted the national flag at a ceremony held at the Abshar Driving Licensing Centre, which was attended by SP Headquarters Fakhar Bashir Raja, traffic wardens, lady wardens and other officials. Traffic officers also cut an Independence Day cake at the center.
Later, CTO Shirazi personally rode a motorcycle and led the Independence Day rally, said its purpose was to promote responsible celebrations and create a sense of security among citizens. He said Independence Day was an occasion of national joy and should not be turned into an excuse for dangerous driving. He warned that one-wheeling, racing, and dangerous drifting would not be tolerated.
The CTO said Lahore Traffic Police was continuing its crackdown against one-wheeling and dangerous driving, adding that several motorcyclists involved in such activities had already been proceeded against. He said more than 1,500 motorcycles had been impounded and sent to different police stations as part of the ongoing crackdown.
Shirazi urged parents to keep their children away from one-wheeling and overspending and closely monitor their activities, stressing that dangerous driving was unacceptable. He called upon citizens to celebrate Independence Day responsibly and ensure that national celebrations remained safe, peaceful, and orderly.
